How: Submit essay to YAP chair via email or postal service. Contact information found below.
Essay details:
- Essay must be written by the youth
- Youth does not need to own Shires to enter
- Essay must be at least 500 words
- Winners and their essays will be published in Bulletin or equivalent
- Essays will be graded by the Youth Committee
- 2 winners will be chosen to receive a 2010 youth annual membership including free entrollment into the YAP
- Deadline is July 1st
- Essay can be written on any story or idea, but must be about the Shire. Creativity is key!
- One entry per participant

Welcome to the ASHA Youth Webpage! The ASHA Youth Achievement Program is a voluntary program free of charge that ASHA youth members can participate in and receive recognition for any work they perform while working with Shires or Shire sporthorses.
Each participant receives a gift and a certificate recognizing the youth for his/her hard work upon meeting the assigned point levels. Points assigned and kept track of by the youth member. The totals are sent to the Youth Committee periodically throughout the year, so that totals can be tallied. Below are the point levels and associated gifts:
250- Shire zipper pull
500- Shire lapel pin
750- ASHA canvas tote
1000- ASHA coffee mug
1250- ASHA baseball cap
1500- ASHA tee shirt
2000- Pewter Shire pin
2500- Choice of award off ASHA website up to $20
3000- or upon graduation - plaque
An annual Youth membership costs $15 for US addresses and $25 for Foreign addresses. The program also offers a great incentive for youth to participate and help support the Shire. On-line documents can be found via the links below.
